How to Color a Sunrise - Tutorial by My Mind's Eye Art and Coloring

Have you ever finished coloring in a coloring page but then realized that the background of the design was blank?

You could decide to leave it uncolored. That’s a perfectly fine decision. After all, there is no wrong or right way to color in a coloring page.

However, what if you want to color the background in?

There are lots of options for coloring in the background such as patterns or other things. In fact, it can seem a bit overwhelming deciding what to do with all that blank paper!

One fun and easy way to fill it in and add a little drama to your artwork is to color in a sunrise (or sunset depending on your point of view!)

The video tutorial below demonstrates how to add a sunrise or sunset to the background of your coloring page.

Materials Used in the Tutorial:

Coloring Page: I used a sample coloring page with a sunflower on it. Click here to download the Sunflower Coloring Page for free.

Colored Pencils: I used Prismacolor soft core pencils. The colors I used are found in the 72 count set which is available on Amazon. However, you don’t have to use these exact pencils. Feel free to use your favorite pencils and pick the closest colors. Amazon Basics Colored Pencils are a fairly inexpensive alternative.

These are the Prismacolor soft core pencils I used:
PC 906 – Copenhagen Blue
PC1008 – Parma Violet
PC921 – Pale Vermillion
PC942 – Yellow Ochre
PC914 – Cream
White (not pictured)

Colorless Blender: I used a Prismacolor colorless blender. (PC1077) It’s also available on Amazon.

White Pen: I used a extra fine tipped Posca Paint Marker to make stars. (I bought it as part of a set on Amazon.) You can also try using other white opaque gel pens.
